(Louisville, KY) –Mayor Greg Fischer and the Louisville Downtown Partnership (LDP) will celebrate the reopening of Guthrie Street on Tuesday, June 16th at 11:30 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a “Food Truck Roundup” for Downtown professionals to linger and enjoy lunch on the newly refurbished street.
“In addition to the sidewalk and streetscape improvements that we completed last year, and with major new tenants such as the Embassy Suites and Hilton Garden Inn, 4th Street from Ali to Broadway is transforming into a unique retail and restaurant corridor,” Fischer said.
“The reopening of Guthrie Street removes the last vestige of the 1970’s era River City Mall initiative,” said Rebecca Matheny, Executive Director of LDP. “We are excited to have a complete street approach here that will better serve our Downtown,” she added. As part of the $500,000 upgrade, LG&E made vault and other utility improvements in the area concurrent with project.
“We’ve designed the space so it can easily accommodate events with a rolled curb feature and we look forward to Guthrie Street becoming an important venue for large outdoor events in Downtown,” Matheny said. “It also brings an important circulation to the South Fourth Street area which is experiencing a resurgence with local retail shops and popular restaurants.”
LDP is the dynamic organization that drives economic growth in Downtown for the benefit of the entire region, as well as oversees multiple on-street enhancements that help establish Downtown Louisville’s distinctive character and widespread appeal. LDP believes the economic engine of any great city starts with a strong Downtown.
