Louisville City FC takes on Orlando City on home turf

Louisville, KY.,  — For the first time ever a Major League Soccer club will come to the Bluegrass State to take on Louisville City FC. First year MLS side Orlando City SC visits Slugger Field bringing their core group of players for the 7:30 PM showdown tonight at Louisville Slugger Field.

Rookie sensation and first overall pick in the MLS Draft Cyle Larin, former MLS Cup Champion Aureillen Collin, as well as a number of other national and international stars have made the trip to the Derby City.

Louisville City is coming off of a 3-1 victory over the Charleston Battery on Saturday. A match where the two most proficient scorers for City filled the score sheet. Matthew Fondy opened the scoring in the 45th minute, giving the hosts a huge boost heading into the locker room. Magnus Rasmussen doubled the advantage midway through the second half, and Fondy slotted the third goal past the keeper moments later for his 18th goal of the USL season.

Orlando City played Saturday evening in Canada. A 5-0 loss to Toronto FC was made possible when Rafael Ramos was sent off for a rough tackle in the 36th minute with the teams even at 0-0.

Both teams go into Tuesday night’s match with a lot to play for still in their respective leagues. Louisville City FC is trying to solidify a first round bye in the USL playoffs and try to catch Rochester for the league title. Orlando City is in the middle of a tight playoff race, where only five points separates five teams for the last spot in the Eastern Conference post season bid.

The festivities for Louisville’s biggest summer sporting event begin on Monday with Orlando City hosting a practice open to the public at Louisville Slugger Field from 3 PM to 4 PM. Following the open training session, U.S. Men’s National Team star, Brek Shea will have a meet and greet with fans from 4 PM to 5 PM.
