If you follow hockey, and I don’t, you probably know about Sidney Crosby. I had to look up the facts about the Canadian who is perhaps the best player in the NHL, the captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins. I do remember watching him score the decisive goal in the Olympics for Canada against the U.S.
He’s also very interested in the fight against cancer, and thus is thrilled to be coming to the Mint Jubilee at the Louisville Palace Friday night. Proceeds from the event go to the Mint Jubilee Foundation, which will distribute grants to cancer-related charities.
The Jubilee, back on the Derby Eve party circuit after a one-year hiatus, is transforming the Palace, which has placed a floor atop the seats in the main auditorium. Bob Costas will emcee the party, and stars including Jordin Sparks (the American Idol winner who will sing the national anthem at the Derby) and Idol winner Kris Allen will be there. There will be a stage show, produced by some of the same folks who do national awards shows.
Co-founders Matt Battaglia, Chris and Tom Thieneman re-organized the event this year, and Brown-Forman is the major sponsor. A special drink named for the party and made with Chambord, will be served Friday night.
And guests will have an opportunity to bid on travel packages to New York and Los Angeles that will be auctioned.
