The big green event is going on at the Olmsted tonight, as the city’s Brightside organization is holding its annual fancy event. As part of the party, the second annual Acorn Awards are being handed out, recognizing those who do great green things.
The awards are the brainchild of Gill Holland, who got the idea to recognize local people and corporations who are making things happen for the environment. Last year, Patrick Piuma of the Urban Design Studio, Bernheim Forest, Proof on Main and UPS won the prizes. Here’s the official release for this year — with congrats to Jackie Green.
The Green Building is proud to announce the winners of the 2nd annual Acorn Awards. The awards were presented on March 4th at Brightside’s Green Tie Bash. This festive fundraiser benefits community-wide beautification programs including Blocks in Bloom and Brightside’s NatureScape Grant.
Each year, The Acorn Awards honor one large corporation and one small business, as well as an individual and a group who benefit our “glocal” community by being good environmental stewards, practicing sustainable development, conserving resources and managing their efficient use, using best practices, reducing waste, or raising the awareness of green issues. We celebrate the success of all the nominees, as well as our Acorn Award winners.
The Green Building will donate $1,000 to each winner’s Kentucky-based environmental non-profit organization of choice.
