And You Think You’ve Got Problems

Be glad you’re not a University of Louisville football player. After Saturday’s embarrassing 17-13 loss to Marshall, Coach Charlie Strong’s post-game press conference was laced with anger and speaking errors (“You get what you play.”) It didn’t lack emotion or volume, and had he demanded 20 push-ups from the media in the room, you’d have seen a bunch of out-of-shape sportswriters on the floor. Watch the tirade here.

Not a happy man

U of L’s next home game is Friday, Oct. 21 against Rutgers, and the Cards could easily lost two road games before then.

Things must be better in Lexington. The Wildcats were supposed to lose by a wide margin at LSU, but thanks to a 4th quarter TD, the Cats beat the 30-point spread, losing only 35-7.

So this is the week that the state’s sports focus turns to hoops. UK sold out its first practice after allowing students to camp out for tickets last week, and U of L is expecting to fill the Yum Center for a couple of scrimmages this month.

It May Be Worse for Williams: A new poll released Saturday by the C-J shows that somehow David Williams’ deficit in the polls in the Governor’s race has widened to 31 points, a level that shows him to be perhaps the least likable major candidate in memory. Williams is talking up issues, and GOP groups are airing some funny (did you see the one where a Beshear imposter follows the Obama Playbook?) ads. Beshear is hiding out and watching his numbers go up.

Oh Boy, More Sports Talk on Radio: Pardon the, uh, cynicism, but there’s a new station in town devoted to sports talk. It’s 1450 AM, which will be known as “The Sports Buzz.” It will feature a mix of national (Yahoo!) sports gabbers (Dan Patrick) and live game broadcasts. There will be a local talk shows hosted by Greg Brohm and, the station promises, more surprises to come.

Best Weekend Crime Story: It was a bad day for 46-year-old Carolyn Kesten of Corydon Friday. She came home to find someone had crashed a car into her home and died, starting a fire. And while police were checking the home, they found her 94 marijuana plants.  When she got home, she was arrested.
