Cleaning Up After Jerry: It turns out Jerry Abramson had his own pile of city money he could use for whatever he wanted. The Metro Council is trying to get rid of the fund, but you can bet this will become an issue in Abramson’s statewide race for Lt Gov.
Much Ado About Teepee: I can’t work up an opinion on the Teepee at Cherokee Park, but there are plenty of folks around town who get all worked up over it. Like C.D. Kaplan, who wants it fixed.
Yes, We Remember Kerry: Former U of L standout Kerry Rhodes is being honored by the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame Friday night. He’s had a stellar NFL career, but of course is remembered around here for dropping an interception in a game against Miami in 2004 that cost the Cards the game, and potentially a national championship. He’s our Bill Buckner.
Forgy Makes It Worse: cn/2 checked out Larry Forgy’s assumption that Jerry Abramson is on the Steve Beshear ticket to bring in all that “Jewish Hollywood money.” Forgy didn’t back down when asked about his inappropriate statement, saying he expects Barbara Streisand and Steven Spielberg to start shoveling money to Kentucky to help Abramson. cn/2 found out that the campaign has already received a whopping $13,900 from New York and L.A. donors.
Pitino on the Man of a Thousand Women: Rick Pitino said this about Winston Bennett in a segment aired by the Red and Blue Review TV show: “I wish he would have not been as open as he’s been, but everybody chooses a different path…” Bennett, who’s coaching a team in Mayfield, Ky., is promoting his book, in which he claims to have slept with as many as 1,000 women a year.
Spotted Dolphins: The idiot who stole the dolphin statue in Hikes Point tried to sell it for scrap at a local auto parts store. He’s in jail, charged with criminal stupidity.
Journalism Awards: I won’t be getting any trophies tonight at the local SPJ’s annual awards dinner at the Mellwood. But it might be interesting to see how many laid-off C-J staffers pick up prizes.
Working with Women: Today is Aaron Miller’s last day as a member of the Lambert and Lindsey morning team at 102.3 FM. Miller is leaving the radio biz to take a job with Leadership Louisville, where, according to the org’s website, he’ll be working with 10 female staff members. His new job will be to plan and facilitate programs, he writes, which is probably a big change from making jokes on the radio, which he’s done for 12 years.
