The Louisville area may still have some basketball silverware headed this way.

Bellarmine led by Coach Scott Davenport defeated Minnesota State University Mankato 81-74 last night to stake their claim in the championship. Bellarmine is ranked number two in Division two and will now face the Brigham Young University-Hawaii Seasiders Saturday night. (Are there really enough mormons in Hawaii to start a BYU campus there?)
Bellarmine has been crashing the top tiers of DII basketball for a few years now but this is the Knights’ first opportunity to win a National Championship.
The Knights took down Mankato with 53% shooting and 12 of 23 from beyond the arc. Mankato played tired after a late night overtime thriller the night before. The Knights were able to pull away handily in the waning minutes of the matchup.
A national championship would be the cap on a perfect year for the Knights. They began the year with a win over Xavier University in a exhibition, that showcased the tremendous abilities of the Knights.
The title match will be televised on CBS at 1PM on Saturday.
