Well, let’s give credit for creativity to organizers of Snow Ball Park, who plan to transform a white elephant into a winter playground. The Fair Board held a press conference today to announce that Cardinal Stadium at the Fairgrounds is being equipped with a tubing hill, a maze and ice sculptures in hopes of creating a family-friendly amusement park with snow manufactured from SnowMagic, “The world’s first temperature independent snow making system.”
It will be marketed as a family fun experience, with dinner, drinks also available on site. It’ll cost you $15 to get in, plus the $8 it takes to get your car into the Fairgrounds. The release included a link to a website that’s not yet operating, at snowballpark.com.
It’s not a totally original idea, as a similar event was staged last winter at Cleveland’s Progressive Field, and a handful of other locations have used the same system. The operation will use the scoreboard and sound system and Christmas lights.
Cardinal Stadium is largely unused most of the year, with the exception of concerts held there during the Kentucky State Fair.
The attraction opens Nov. 25 and runs though Jan. 16.
