Coping with COVID with Connie Leonard and Heather Stewart

As I recorded interviews with Connie Leonard and Heather Stewart at the Rick Robey eXp Realty office on Wednesday, the specter of new Coronavirus restrictions hovered over us. And just as we throught, Gov. Andy Beshear did indeed close restaurants and made other demands that will alter our lives.

But this show is about optimism, and how these two amazing women are coping and thriving in less-than-ideal circumstances.

Leonard, the WAVE-3 Anchor and Reporter, was exhausted when she arrived in Middletown. That’s because she’d been up since 2 a.m., adjusting to a new reality of working WAVE’s Sunrise show. She doing that because Lauren Jones, the regular anchor, has come down with COVID.

Leonard grew up in Elizabethtown, attended WKU, and tells an interesting tale of how she escaped her first job in Campbellsville to become an on-air reporter here. You’ll also hear about her life as a mom and wife of WAVE’s sports director Kent Taylor.

Heather Stewart, also a WKU grad, has similarly been balancing work and motherhood while doing the good deed of serving as Executive Director of Kentucky Harvest, which feeds thousands of area individuals who are food-insecure. She’s got 25 years of experience in the non-profit world, and discusses the challenges facing those organizations.

Meanwhile, just as restaurants are shutting down indoor service, we’re sampling Pizza Week around town. It’s sad to hear of the closure of the Uptown Cafe after an amazing 35-year-run, and a new healthy eatery has opened off Hurstbourne. I was surprised at the retirement of Churchill Downs’ Kevin Flanery (a former Rusty guest), and glad to see Jordan Nwora go in the 2nd round of the NBA Draft – to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Thanks to the Eye Care Institute, Heuser Health and eXp Realty for sponsoring the show. I’ll be holding an Open House Sunday from 2-4 at 14926 Landmark Place in Lake Forest Estates. Please come see me.
