Earthquake Felt in Louisville

A 5.9 earthquake in Virginia confirmed as being felt in Washington, New York City and North Carolina was also felt in Louisville, KY.

According to the AP, the U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake was 3.7 miles deep. Shaking was felt at the White House and all over the East Coast, as far south as Chapel Hill, N.C. Parts of the Pentagon, White House and Capitol were evacuated. The quake was in Mineral, Va., in Louisa County.

In my office – at around 1:45pm this afternoon – just 4 stories up in downtown Louisville the building swayed for what felt like over a minute. A definite increase in the intensity of this swaying left me and my co-workers feel nauseous. So far we have not had any reports of any damage.

If you or anyone that you know felt the quake please share your stories.
