Louisville, KY., – Eve Theatre Company will perform its original production of Bourbon Babes of the Bluegrass at the Kentucky Bourbon Marketplace September 14 and 15, 2015 as part of Bardstown’s annual Bourbon Festival. This one hour special “Eve-vent” pays tribute to the many women who, over the centuries, have contributed significantly to Kentucky’s signature bourbon industry.
The play, a fun and fast-paced homage to the Kentucky women who helped breathe life into the booming bourbon industry, premiered in Louisville last March as part of Women’s History Month and was performed at the Bourbon Women Taste Affair in June at the Governor’s Mansion.
Written by Eve Theatre Company member Susan McNeese Lynch, Bourbon Babes tells the personal stories of seven women who have contributed in such ways as being the first to write down a recipe for sour mash, creating a bottle and red wax seal that is now known the world over, and building a bootlegging business that was second to none.

Interspersed among the stories of these fascinating women are a series of “Mixers” that add extra history, humor, trivia, cocktail recipes, music, and a little mayhem to the proceedings.
“This is Eve’s way of encouraging new and overdue appreciation for the roles that women played in this very important industry,” said Lynch. “We hope that Bourbon Babes will change the way people see bourbon, right down to how to sip a Mint Julep.”
Under the direction of Kate Larken, who also appears in the show, the cast for Bourbon Babes of the Bluegrass includes, Hazel Bartlett, Kim Butterweck, Lynch, Gilmer McCormick, Kate Scinta, and Diane Stretz-Thurmond.
The Kentucky Bourbon Marketplace, located at 110 West Flaget Street, Bardstown, KY, 40004, is an historic venue with bourbon-related programming, a tasting room, gift shop and liquor store. Bourbon Babes of the Bluegrass will be performed Monday, September 14 and Tuesday, September 15 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $22 for general admission and available by calling 502-348-8611.
To help defray additional production and travel expenses, Eve Theatre has launched a “Take Bourbon Babes on the Road” campaign through Go Fund Me. For more information or to contribute, go towww.evetheatrecompany.com.
Eve will kick off its fourth season with a production of Richard Alfieri’s bittersweet comedy Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks at the Victor Jory Theatre at Actors Theatre of Louisville. This two-character comedy, directed by Gilmer McCormick, opens as an aging but still formidable woman hires an acerbic dance instructor to give her lessons at her home in Florida. Antagonism between a gay man and the wife of a Southern Baptist minister gives way to a profound compatibility as they swing dance, tango, foxtrot and ch-cha while sharing more than just dance steps. Performances run December 3-13, 2015.
