They’re ugly, too: Gov. Steve Beshear called members of the Senate a bunch of “fat guys” yesterday during an appearance on Mandy Connell’s radio show. In response, David Williams called him “sophomoric” and claimed Beshear is a “weak governor.” And it’s only March. Why do the taxpayers have to pay these guys to hurl insults at each other during a costly special session?
Strike Up the Band: I can’t figure out why the Metro Council had to pass an ordinance for this, but they did. And now live music is allowed in Old Louisville. It wouldn’t have happened without the impressive work of new Councilman David James, who is also working to change some of those one-way streets to two-way to help business.

Meet Bill Lamb: at the Breakfast of Champions. It’s Monday at 7:30 a.m. at the University Club on campus, brought to you by LouisvilleKY.com.
Shanklin Speaks Out: Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin spoke to WAVE yesterday about that catfight she had with Judy Green on the WLOU airwaves over the weekend. The station, and Simmons College, still aren’t releasing tape of the incident, prompting speculation from media members (like me) that there’s an organized effort to protect Green and make the story go away.
We Suck. It’s on this Map: Check out this interactive map from the New York Times. It shows what we already knew — Kentucky is in the bottom of every measure of health and well-being in the land. Thanks, LEO
The Price of Gas: Rep. John Yarmuth is a co-sponsor of this bill that would punish those who are gouging us at the gas pump. Nice idea, but I’m not expecting them to actually catch any gougers.
Your Beeswax: On Sunday, you can get a lesson in Urban Beekeeping. That’s right. It’s at Creation Gardens on Market, sponsored by Fresh Start Growers Supply. From 1-5, you can also learn about organic lawn care and weed management, which almost makes me wish I had a yard.
Goofoffability: Don’t you hate how popular it’s become to add the suffix “ability” to change a verb to a noun? re: spurtability, coined by Clark Kellogg. Well, it’s that time of year. And goofoffability is my contribution to the language. Leave work early for the Cats at 3:30, playing Ole Miss in the SEC Tourney in Atlanta, to show your own goofoffability. The Cards, especially impressive last night against Marquette, have a bigger challenge tonight with Notre Dame in the Big East.
Should’ve Asked Me: Greg Fischer is a bit disappointed in his public budget hearings. He wanted citizen input about ways to cut spending in government, but it turns out everybody who’s showed up to talk about money wants some. How about cutting the handouts? My ideas: cut staff, eliminate those NDF funds that are essentially ways for people like Judy Green to abuse the system, and quit spending money studying bridges.
