Well we’re only a few days out from Forecastle Festival X right here in good ole’ Louisville, Kentucky. The midwest’s music, art and activism mecca will be going down on Louisville’s Waterfront Park, and you can bet your ass I’ll be going gonzo all weekend long.
So, I’m sitting here assembling my little hit list for the festival so I can recap what I think ought to be recapped about the who, the what and the why. Of course, on that list are Kentucky-based bands out the ass. Why? Because that’s just what I seem to obsess over in my little so-called music journalistic endeavors. Ken-fuckin-tucky music baby!
On the interview deck next is Bowling Green’s Sleeper Agent, a fine young alternative garage band who has quickly made a name for themselves nationally with their debut album Celabrasion released last September via Mom + Pop Music and produced by Jay Joyce.
Lead singer, Alex Kandell, at the tender age of 19 was just nominated to Rolling Stone magazine’s “Women Who Rock” readers poll on up-and-coming artists. That said, I’m sure my interview will be just peachy-keen and we’ll all learn just what Sleeper Agent has up their sleeve that makes everyone love them so much.
Also on my Forecastle hit list is Nerves Junior, Houndmouth, Atmosphere, Wax Fang, Lucero, Justin Townes Earle, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Ravenna Colt, Dr. Dog, Washed Out, Andrew Bird, Daniel Martin Moore, Girl Talk, My Morning Jacket, Lydia Burrell, Cabin, Neko Case, Gramatik, Ben Sollee and Clutch.
Check back here at LouisvilleScuttlebutt.com OR LouisvilleKY.com OR PerformerMag.com for my Forecastle Festival recap and review, and to see who I praised and who I crapped on. If I actually do…
And in case you missed it, check out my interview from June with My Morning Jacket’s Two-Tone Tommy on Forecastle’s curation.
Until next time…
Cheers!
