J.T. Dockery, known to Seidenfaden’s patrons as the drumming half of the Louisville-based glitterbilly duo The Smacks! and the fried half of acoustic street-busking duo Cheeseburger & Fries, is about to unveil Spud Crazy, a deluxe new graphic novel collaboration between himself and renowned author Nick Tosches.

Institute 193, a Lexington art gallery, has set up a Kickstarter account to help fund this limited-edition objet d’art book. Institute 193’s edition (9″ x 12″ and sealed in a printed glassine envelope) will consist of 40 pages of artwork, an essay by Bob Levin (author of “The Pirates and the Mouse: Disney’s War Against the Counterculture”) and an introduction by punk rock legend Richard Hell. Each issue will be signed and numbered by Dockery himself, and will include a bonus soundtrack CD of music by the Spud Imperials, featuring members of The Smacks! and Hair Police.

To help celebrate the book’s creation, Institute 193 will be unveiling it with an exhibition held Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 6 PM. Be there. Bring a potato to the exhibition, hand it to Dockery, and he will whisper a secret in your ear.

Dockery, who bounces back and forth between his homes in Louisville, Lexington, and Annville, is already working on his next project, Leg Art Comics.
