Kentucky Homefront- Keep the Front Porch Rockin’ – Sunday at River Bend

From the radio to River Bend! Thanks for your support!

I’ve been a Kentucky Homefront volunteer since 2001 and have loved every moment of the live audience recordings. from the Kentucky Theatre on 4th Street to the Clifton Center. The work that goes between booking to post-production includes stage direction, concessions, storytelling and fundraising. It is truly a labor of love .

Songwriter, activist John Gage takes on the lion’s share of that work, passionately and physically, and we thank  him for that. Our consistent volunteer core is family. Not many folks since Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney threw a makeshift stage with a rope and a sheet to do a show – “C’mon. it’ll be fun!”  – have had such a great time getting Homefront off the ground and on the air as we have.

However, dedication does not pay all of the bills. Loss of community and state funding has left the cultural landscape with a little less green in the last couple of years.

What seems to work best for us at Kentucky Homefront is bringing the music to the fans who help build the show.

Each year we tune our instruments, so to speak, and put on an outlandishly good party that hosts some of the finest artistry in the Commonwealth. This Sunday, Jan. 29, upstairs at River Bend Winery (120 S. 10th Street, between Main and Market, closest to Market), we ask you to join us from 4-8PM for the 11th Anniversary Fundraiser for the Kentucky Homefront Radio Show.
A $10 donation is suggested. As you may or may not know, Kentucky Homefront is a show featuring Kentucky’s finest acoustic folk, traditional, blues, country, and bluegrass musicians, and its best storytellers.
The “front porch” broadcasts, that air each Wednesday on WFPK at 8PM, are reminiscent of radio variety programs of a bygone era. Hosted by the talented and inimitable singer/songwriter John Gage, Kentucky Homefront is recorded on the 2nd Saturday of every month (except January and July). The show is recorded before a live audience at the Clifton Centerin the Clifton Neighborhood, in the heart of the vibrant Frankfort Avenue neighborhood, in Louisville, KY.
You can expect a rollickin’ good time as River Bend will provide a limited menu, a full bar and is donating 15% of their proceeds to Kentucky Homefront! Also, a new guitar will be raffled off and there will be three 50/50 raffles. There will also be a “Keep the Front Porch Light Burning Bright” booth where you can buy season tickets at a discounted price.
Here is the entertainment schedule:
4:00PM Songwriters in the Round with John Gage, Turley Richards and Mickey Clark
5:00 PM Hog Operation
Thanks for supporting local independent music and radio! Please join us for a great night! Bring a friend…or two.
