KIPDA to Enroll Qualified Medicare Recipients in Extra Help Program at the 7th Annual Hispanic/Latino Health Fair

The Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency (KIPDA), through its Social Services Division, will be working with Spanish-Speaking Medicare beneficiaries in Kentucky to assist them in getting money to help lower their out-of-pocket prescription drug costs this weekend.  The 7th Annual Hispanic/Latino Health Fair on June 11, 2011 from 8:30 a.m. to noon will give the Hispanic community and other fair-goers an opportunity to seek qualification and approval for funds on the spot at the event.

“We are pleased to be working with the Hispanic/Latino Coalition of Louisville again this year,” said Barbara Gordon, Director of Social Services for KIPDA.  “The Hispanic Latino Annual Health Fair allows us to assist the Spanish-speaking senior citizens of Louisville who are in need by taking applications for the “Extra Help Program” that can cover up to $4,000 of annual prescription drug costs.  This program is administered by the Social Security Administration and available to those who qualify.”

This year, KIPDA will also offer a coloring table so that children attending the health fair have an opportunity to show what their grandparents mean to them through their drawings.  Seniors who can’t make the Hispanic/Latino Health Fair who would like additional information, can go online to: www.socialsecurity.gov and click on “Get extra help with Medicare prescription drug costs” or call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).  Kentucky residents can go to www.kipda.org or call 502-266-5571 for more information.  More information about the 7th Annual Hispanic/Latino Heath Fair can be found at www.hlcoflouisville.org.  For directions, call 502-262-7491.
