Kudos to U of L Athletic Summer Camps

Both my kids are in U of L Athletic Summer Camps this week.  I am amazed at the professional way these camps are run. The coaches and athletes have a huge amount of responsibility with the campers while they are in their care but honestly the students athletes seem to have as much fun as the campers. The student athletes are increasing their fan base and teaching skills at the same time.

Ken Lolla’s Louisville Soccer Academy camp bleeds red of course. Riding the wave of the fabulous Division 1 Soccer season, the first camp session was completely sold out. What seems like hundreds of kids converge on the Cardinal Park Soccer Field early in the morning. (What a spectacular venue by the way.) The Louisville Men’s Soccer team has many of his athlete’s high-fiving and calling the kids by their first names by the end of the first day. The guys are out directing traffic making sure the car rider pick up isn’t complete chaos.  I’ve also received daily You Tube videos to recap my camper’s day on the field.

The Hockey Edge 100 Field Hockey camp is no slacky camp either. Comparable to the other sport venues in Cardinal Park, Field Hockey just installed a beautiful new turf field at their complex.  The encouraging, fun attitudes, coupled with the competitive spirit the women athletes have is contagious. I know my daughter is getting to know girls from all over the city and honing her field hockey skills.

These are just two of the athletic camps going on this summer. U of L Athletic web site lists multiple camps for many of their sports. I know my family will be sure to cheer on these teams in the coming school year. Thank you to the coaches for taking the time to let our kids get to know your kids.
