Lá Quế in the Highlands has closed

The most recent F&D mention of Lá Quế (1019 Bardstown Road) in the Highlands came in 2020, when the pan-Asian eatery’s Red Curry was included in a survey of must-try bowls.

Last week in the Courier Journal, food writer Dahlia Ghabour offered news of Lá Quế’s recent demise.

Courier Journal reporters are unsure of the closure date, but the restaurant was seen shuttered on Friday with a “For Lease” sign posted on the building along with a simple sign on the door that read ‘Sorry, we close business.'”

There’s more background from Eleanor Tolbert at Louisville Business First.

Mimi Hwang, an agent at Semonin Realtors, said the restaurant was owned by Jeff Wang. Hwang said the decision to close was due to age. Wang took over La Que in 2018, and Hwang said she was unsure how long the business had been open, although a Facebook post from 2020 indicates it had been in operation for more than a decade.
