Located on the famously disputed border of Butchertown and NuLu, La Raíz Mexican Restaurant will replace the departed Nami Modern Korean Steakhouse, which departed around Thanksgiving time in 2025.

La Raiz will be located at 835 E. Main St. in the Martin on Main development. The new restaurant is being launched by Ohio-based El Rancho Grande Inc., which operates 18 restaurants in Cincinnati and Dayton. Gary Rodriguez, El Rancho president of operations, verified that La Raiz would be the company’s first restaurant in Greater Louisville, but he declined to provide more details.
Family-owned El Rancho Grande Mexican Grill & Cantina opened its first location in the late ’90s in Sharonville, Ohio. In 2024, the company opened a new $4 million, 10,000-square-foot restaurant there. Nami, one of Louisville’s most nationally recognized restaurant openings in recent years, closed abruptly in November 2025.
