Call it a local version of Regis & Kelly, right down the Gelman character (in the person of producer Holly Rudolph). Great Day Live! is the new morning show that starts up Monday, with Rachel Platt and Terry Meiners as hosts, Angie Fenton doing remotes (she’ll be at the Fair Monday) and newcomer Laura Rogers.
Exec Producer Kirk Szesny told me the station began planning this show two years ago, and showed me a set that includes a lot of bells and whistles — full kitchen, overhead cameras, plush new set furniture and microwave popcorn. I saw part of the final rehearsal for the show at WHAS this morning, and learned the best part is going to be an interview with Bob Edgar, a 91-year-old who’s earned his 15 minutes of fame for appearing in a show promo that’s been running on the air.
The station is putting plenty of resources into the show, and though it’s got an element of pay-for-play in it, ought to be a great new choice for viewers. On WHAS, it replaces the Regis and Kelly show, which fans can still find at its new home, WDRB.
More details on the show can be found at the Voice-Tribune.
