Rochester, NY (October 10, 2015) — A physical match between the leagues top two teams totaled five yellow cards and a red card when Steevan Dos Santos head butted Aodhan Quinn in the 82nd minute. However the game also totaled just one goal. A Rochester goal off a set piece midway through the first half was all the Rhinos needed to win and end an incredible year one for Louisville City FC.
Rochester challenged Louisville’s backline several times through the first 25 minutes. It took a Matt Fondy clearance off the line to keep the game scoreless in the 17th minute. However, the scoreline wouldn’t stay that way much longer.
On the third corner of the match Vassilios Apostolopoulos finished a shot right in front of the goal after a header was saved by Louisville City FC goalkeeper Scott Goodwin. The Rhinos, who had only lost one game all season, came into the match on Saturday having never lost when scoring a goal.
Rochester continued to push forward, seeking out a second goal, but Louisville made key defensive plays to keep the deficit at just one at the break. After a Juan Guzman shot in the 10th minutes the Rhinos outshot Louisville 7-0 before the halftime whistle blew.
Louisville went on the attack in the second half. Just before the hour mark Louisville created their best chance with some quality passing in the final third. The buildup led to a left footed shot from Niall McCabe from the top of the box, but he couldn’t get enough power behind it to beat Brandon Miller.
Even with the red card to Steevan Dos Santos in the 82nd minute and Louisville pushing the tempo, shots were at a premium for the visitors and Rochester was able to hold on to the clean sheet.
Louisville City FC finishes their first ever season with several accolades, and a solid base to build on going into the 2016 season.
