OSHN honors National Youth Violence Prevention Week
Louisville, Ky., – In honor of National Youth Violence Prevention Week, the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN) is inviting Louisville youth to submit project ideas that aim to reduce youth violence in Louisville. OSHN wants to offer a platform for Louisville youth to voice their concerns about youth violence.
The Idea Challenge will culminate on April 8, 2016 with the One Love Louisville Youth Edition launch party at the California Community Center, from 4-7 p.m. The launch party, which will include music and refreshments, will be designed in an art gallery format to ensure that every idea can be shared with attendees.
Youth ages 8-18 are encouraged to submit ideas in the following formats: Songs, poems, videos, graphic arts, drawings, paintings, essays and other creative methods.
Ideas should highlight one of the following themes: Justice, resolution, forgiveness, community, tolerance, safety, hope, peace, love, unity, and respect.
Guidelines:
Must be between the ages of 8-18 years of age.
Must submit ideas/proposals by Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 @ 5pm.
Must include a description of 200 words or less.
Must have parent/guardian permission to enter.
Idea must be your own.
Individuals and groups are welcome to enter.
Groups: 2-5 individuals (all group members MUST be between 8-18 years of age).
Must live in Louisville/Jefferson County.
Must be present on April 8, 2016 to win.
Submissions are divided into 4 categories:
Individuals 8-12 years of age;
Groups 8-12 years of age;
Individuals 13-18 years of age;
Groups 13-18 years of age;
On the day of the event, judges will grade each of the submissions based on creativity, practicality, thoughtfulness and clarity.
