Louisville Ky’s Bardstown Road Aglow Celebrates holiday milestone Saturday

Louisville, Ky., – In 1985, several businesses along Metro Louisville’s Bardstown Road/Baxter Avenue Corridor decided to highlight the holiday season in a special community way with decorations, music, and fun reminiscent of the small downtowns many people remember from years past.

Thus began a new tradition and this weekend, the tradition will live on with the 30th Annual Bardstown Road Aglow on Saturday, December 5th.

“There are many holiday events that come and go but the Highland Commerce Guild has done a remarkable job of keeping this celebration alive,” says Councilman Tom Owen (D-8).  “With the help of businesses and other volunteers, this year will be special with holiday lights and music to warm the spirit as you stroll down Bardstown Road and Baxter Avenue.”

This year as part of the celebration, Makers Mark has joined as a primary sponsor.

“This is a big year for us and we are so happy to be teaming up with Maker’s Mark for our 30th anniversary.  Maker’s Mark is bringing fresh energy and new ideas that will make this year’s Bardstown Road Aglow celebration one to remember,” states Bardstown Road Aglow chair Mary Beth Rother.  “And as always we thank Councilman Owen for his support to keep this tradition alive.”

The Bardstown Road Aglow also features a ceremonial tree lighting, Selfies with Santa to benefit Gilda’s Club, the Selfie with an Elfie contest, and a Holiday Decorating contest.  If you choose not to walk, a free trolley will be available going up and down the corridor taking you to any destination.

Restaurants and business will be offering holiday specials along the way as part of the Yuletide tradition.

There will also be many opportunities to help out the mission and work of Highland Community Ministries as the holiday season gets underway to help those in need.

“I am sure this 30th anniversary will bring some very special things to those who come to the Aglow,” says Owen.  “There will be sidewalk entertainment and roaming musicians to bring the feel of the old downtown back to life during the holidays.”

Joining Owen, the Highlands Commerce Guild, and Makers Mark as sponsors are ValuMarket, WFPL, Bearnos, Park Community Bank, LEO Weekly, Lite 106.9, and the Thirty Peddler.

The Bardstown Road Aglow will be held from dusk to 10:00p.m.
