Louisville Softball and Baseball Face a Crucial Weekend

This weekend brings huge match ups for both the Cardinal Softball and Baseball team.

Softball Hosts NCAA Regional

Last weekend saw the rise of the Lady Cards as they used their home field in the Big East Championships to reach the final. Along the way Louisville was able to knock off the number one-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish, but fell short to Syracuse in a 1-0 affair.

Louisville Softball celebrates a big win against Notre Dame.

The run in the tourney was enough to propel the (36-18) Cards to a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The selection committee also picked Louisville to host the Regional that includes Jacksonville State, Illinois-Chicago, and the 7 seeded California Golden Bears.

If the Cards can win the double-elimination regional they would be a three game series away from the team’s first Women’s College World Series.

UofL begins their NCAA journey on Friday at 7:30 at Ulmer Stadium in Cardinal Park. Tickets are $7 for general admission and $10 for reserved seating. Call (502) 852-5151 for tickets, this is sure to sell out.

Baseball Faces Crucial Series Against Notre Dame

May hasn’t been kind to the Cardinal Baseball team (27-26). The month proved a disaster, with UofL slumping into an eight game losing streak. The losses included a 6-1 loss to the number one ranked Vanderbilt and an 18 inning marathon 1-0 loss to Seton Hall.

The Cards have been able to bounce back and now sport a two game winning streak, but still face a huge challenge. Notre Dame comes to Louisville to face the Cards in a three game win or go home series. The winner of the season ending season will clinch the last spot in the Big East Tournament.

The series kicks off Thursday at 6 pm at Patterson Stadium
