LouisvilleKY groups release New Body Safety Guide

Body Safety 101: A caregiver’s guide to empowering your child and safe body boundaries.

(Louisville, KY,) The Kosair Charities® Face It Movement has partnered with the Kentucky Association of Children’s Advocacy Centers and Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky to create a new tool to continue to fight child abuse in our community.

The new tool offers a guide for parents and caregivers on taking steps to surround children with safe caregivers in safe environments and talking with children about their bodies, body safety, and personal boundaries.

“Parents and caregivers need the tools to talk to their children about body safety. This infographic is a great way to start a hard conversation with your child,” said Caroline Ruschell, Executive Director of the Kentucky Association of Children’s Advocacy Centers. Children’s Advocacy Centers in Kentucky provide compassionate, coordinated intervention and investigation of child abuse. “We were happy to partner with Face It to make this idea a reality.”

Body Safety 101 also includes information on possible warning signs of child sexual abuse and how to respond if a child discloses abuse.

“Preventing child sexual abuse, in large part, is about ensuring adults understand appropriate boundaries, can identify risks, and are prepared to take steps to create safer environments for children,” said Jill Seyfred, Executive Director of Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky.

Estimates suggest that about 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday, and one child is too many. Face It and its partners are proud to offer this new tool for parents, educators, health practitioners, child care providers, and others working with youth across Kentucky to prevent and end child abuse.
