Louisville, KY., – To bring awareness to the professional needs of Louisville’s foreign-born population, Mayor Greg Fischer and GLI president Kent Oyler will lead a workforce development conversation during the Louisville Society of Human Resource Management (LSHRM) networking and lunch event on November 3 at the Muhammad Ali Center.
Topics to be discussed include the talent shortage facing our economy, current efforts to attract and integrate foreign-born workers and how the human resource professional community can align their work and engage their companies in welcoming them into the workforce.
“Our goal as a city is to do more than keep up with the pace of global change; it’s to leap ahead,” Mayor Fischer said. “That includes attracting highly skilled, foreign-born workers.”
The workforce development conversation will be immediately be followed by a Career Fair mobilizing a number of community organizations to bring together the most diverse gathering of regional talent. The Career Fair is free and open to anyone seeking employment or connecting with career advancement opportunities in the Greater Louisville region.
In 2015, LSHRM asked 300 HR leaders and businesses to participate in its Talent Alignment Study. They learned that 82 percent of Louisville businesses expect moderate to high growth in the next 3-5 years, yet 81 percent of HR leaders struggle to find the talent they need today.
The economic forecast for Greater Louisville is strong, but a major concern for sustaining growth is locating and hiring quality employees. The robust growth of international professionals in the Louisville region is a significant opportunity to reinforce the workforce needs of businesses throughout the community.
A limited number of employer booths are still available. Interested employers should sign up quickly as requests are honored on a first come, first served basis. Job seekers are expected to represent a range of diverse and multi-lingual regional professionals, experienced labor force, and qualified recent graduates seeking to elevate their careers.
A more private area will be available for those wishing to pursue in-depth conversations or on-the-spot interviews with attendees.
