Back to School Events
July 16, Back to School Fest at Lynnhurst United Church of Christ, 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Located at 4401 Taylor Blvd. Open to all students in grades Kindergarten through High School. Free backpacks filled with health products (while supplies last), community resources, health screenings and fun! Lunch will be provided. Sponsored by South Central Neighborhood Place Community Council, Jefferson County Public Schools, Passport and Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital.
July 28, Back to School Festival at Stuart Middle School, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Located at 4601 Valley Station Rd. For more information call 363-1483. This annual event is open to families with children in kindergarten through high school. School supplies and backpacks will be provided to families who participate in two, 10-minute ‘mini-trainings’ (while supplies last). Over 20 presenters will be at the event to share information on various topics plus mascots and lots of hands on fun will be on board. Sponsored by South Jefferson Neighborhood Place, Cane Run Neighborhood Place, Louisville Metro Department of Community Services, South Jefferson Community Partnership, Drug-Free Communities Grant, area JCPS schools, Kidz Club, Valley View Church, Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Fairdale Christian Church and Fairdale First Baptist Church.
July 30, Back to School Festival at Thomas Jefferson Middle School, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Free, grade-appropriate school supplies (while supplies last) and free lunches for kids served by JCPS Nutrition Services. Community Resource Fair provided including diabetes and blood pressure checks, YMCA program, voter registration, library services and plus lots of music and fun. Sports physicals offered for $20 (cash only). Must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. July 30, Back to School Event at Meyzeek Middle School, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Located at 828 S. Jackson St. Call 485-8299 for more information. This Back to School event will provide school supplies on a first-come, first-served basis and offer parents the opportunity to interact with other community agencies. All children must accompanied by an adult parent or guardian, and adults must have a student with them in order to receive supplies. We are unable to provide supplies to children accompanied by their daycare provider. Sponsored in part by 810 Barret Ave. Neighborhood Place and Louisville Metro Department of Community Services.
August 4, Northwest Back to School Festival at Northwest Neighborhood Place, 1 – 5 p.m.
Located at 4018 West Market St. Call 485-7230 for more information. Open to students from Kindergarten through high school. Free backpacks loaded with essential school supplies for the coming year will be distributed while supplies last. Educational and community vendors as well as health care vendors will be on-site to conduct school health physicals and dental screenings for family participants, plus Kidz Zone will be available for all to enjoy. Students must be accompanied by their parent or guardian. Sponsored by Northwest Neighborhood Place, Louisville Metro Department of Community Services, The Kidz Club, Jefferson County Public Schools, and Service for Peace.
August 5, Bridges of Hope Back to School Blast at Cochran Elementary School, 12 – 2 p.m.

Representatives from the WeCare Program at LG&E will be on hand to talk with interested persons about energy efficiency, energy usage and tips to reduce utility bills. WeCare staff can also help determine if households are eligible for a variety of free services including air duct sealing and insulation, attic and wall insulation, programmable thermostats and much more.

Store managers from area Walgreens Pharmacies will be at two Neighborhood Place locations to talk with individuals interested in a career with Walgreens. Career opportunities within the pharmacy will be showcased and one-on-one information sessions for interested individuals will be provided. In addition a Walgreens’ pharmacist will be on hand to offer blood pressure checks and discuss any questions concerning medications.

This popular resource support group for relatives raising grandchildren is back in business and meets the second Thursday of each month. This group focuses on the unique issues that caregivers may have raising younger children. Aunts, uncles or anyone raising their grandchildren are welcome to attend. Lunch is provided free of charge.
July 19, Keep Cool & Keep Your Money Workshop at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 6 – 7 p.m.
