(Louisville, KY) – Before a crowd of business, civic, and community leaders, Greater Louisville Inc. – the Metro Chamber of Commerce, released its legislative priorities for the upcoming sessions in both Kentucky and Indiana.
“We are only as strong as the investors engaged with us and this agenda was created by those same individuals to grow Greater Louisville in a meaningful way,” GLI President and CEO Kent Oyler said. “We look forward to working with legislators on both sides of the river to improve our business climate.”
The 2019 State Legislative Agenda includes targeted improvements to Kentucky’s tax code, support for criminal justice reform to expand expungements and reform the cash bail system, and policies to promote a healthier regional workforce through anti-smoking initiatives. In partnership with One Southern Indiana, GLI will continue to advocate for the Nurse Licensure Compact to streamline the licensing agreement between states to increase the number of nurses able to fill staffing shortages on both sides of the river.
Perennial issues like support for pension reform, expanded gaming, road aid modernization, and unemployment insurance reform are also included in the 2019 agenda.
“There is much work to be done to make even more companies want to do business here,” Sarah Davasher-Wisdom, GLI’s C.O.O., said. “This agenda is a roadmap for getting there. We will hit the ground running in 2019 to make sure these policies are front-and-center with legislators. ”
