Louisville, KY. – Louisville-based Humana is now partnering with a local event that gets over 12,000 people in shape every year – the Derby Festival’s miniMarathon and Marathon. Humana announced this week they will be the title sponsor of Kentucky’s largest annual road race in 2019. Humana has partnered on the races since 2012, but this will be their first time as title sponsor.
“We’ve been inspired by the stories from participants, and it’s because of them that we’re stepping up as title sponsor of the event,” said Dr. Val Slayton, Humana Regional Vice President, Health Services. “This is an opportunity to show our commitment to the Louisville community as a health partner for life, and to helping residents here achieve their best health.”
Humana’s support will help the Derby Festival enhance the event, including the Relay Division, which has shorter distances for those participants who don’t want to run the half or full marathon. The Relay includes 5 legs along the Marathon route, with distances including two 5K’s, two 10K’s and one 12.5K. Relay teams can be made of 3 to 5 participants.
“We know not everyone is ready to run 13.1 or 26.2 miles, so the Relay is an excellent way for anyone to participate,” said Mike Berry, Kentucky Derby Festival President & CEO.
New this year, there will be an opportunity for the entire relay team to run across the finish line together, plus an exclusive hospitality area just for relay participants at Runner’s Reunite.
Runners that register for the Relay between today and November 17, and use the code TEAMWORK19, will receive special discount on their registration with $25 in savings. Also, each team member will receive a special Relay Decal. Registration is open online at DerbyFestivalMarathon.com.
This year’s race is set for Saturday, April 27, 2019, and will mark the 46th year for the miniMarathon and 18th year for the marathon. Both races start simultaneously at 7:30 am on Main Street near Slugger Field and finish at the intersection of Preston and Witherspoon streets.
