LouisvilleKY’s Forecastle Festival promises sustainable practices this weekend

This information was gathered from forecastlefest.com

Louisville, KY., – The Forecastle Festival has, since 2003, aimed to offer equal parts music, art and environmental activism. In addition to efforts on-site to reduce carbon emissions and limit landfill waste, the event contributes $1 from every ticket sold to the Forecastle Foundation, an affiliated 501(c)(3) non-profit with land-level conservation projects in Kentucky, Brazil, Indonesia, and more. With support from our like-minded partners, Forecastle is happy to include the following programs and experiences to encourage sustainable living both at the festival and at home.

ARCADIA POWER

Arcadia

It takes tens of thousands of kWh of electricity to make Forecastle rock and roll each year. In 2015, Forecastle partnered with Clean Energy provider, Arcadia Power to run on 100 percent pollution-free electricity – ensuring that for every kWh of electricity used, a kWh is produced and put on the grid by a pollution-free, renewable source – like wind or solar.

CLEAN VIBES TRADING POST SUPPORTED BY PABST BLUE RIBBON

Clean Vibes

Engage, Educate, Eliminate! Forecastle partners with Clean Vibes to ensure that we minimize our waste footprint as much as possible. Not only does Clean Vibes provide recycling and waste management for the entire festival, but they also run the Clean Vibes Trading Post presented by Pabst Blue Ribbon. Just last year, the Trading Post collected over 75 bags of recycling from patrons and as a whole the festival diverted 70% of its waste from landfills. Make sure to stop by the Trading Post again this year to learn more about how you can help!

COMPLIMENTARY BIKE VALET

We strongly encourage patrons to cycle, which saves money and reduces your carbon footprint and impact on the environment. We are proud to offer a complimentary Bike Valet to all travelers who choose to ride instead of drive.

#LOVETITOS SIGN

Share a photo in front of the #LoveTitos sign, and our friends at Tito’s Handmade Vodka will donate $1 to the Forecastle Foundation to help protect the world’s natural awesome. Enjoy a signature Strawberry Fields cocktail, but don’t forget to find a compost bin – all of the Tito’s cups at Forecastle are 100% compostable.

RECOVER BRANDS

recover brands

Forecastle is proud to partner with Recover Brands as an official merchandise provider for Forecastle 2017. The Charlotte, NC based apparel brand, Recover, manufactures apparel out of 100% recycled materials. That’s right, 100% recycled! This year’s Forecastle shirts will be made from a blend of recycled cotton and recycled plastic- just 8 plastic bottles to make one shirt! In addition to being environmentally friendly, the Recover Tees are super soft and durable. Make sure to stop by the merch booth to pick up a shirt and learn more!

REVERB #ROCKNREFILL PROGRAM

reverb

This year’s Forecastle Festival will feature the #RockNRefill program that will help reduce single-use plastic waste at the festival and raise money to support the non-profit efforts of The Forecastle Foundation and the environmental organization REVERB. Fans can purchase a custom Forecastle 2017 NALGENE bottle at the festival for a $15 donation and refill this (or any other bottle) with filtered water free of charge at water stations across the festival. The #RockNRefill program is a partnership between REVERB and NALGENE that will put 50,000 reusable water bottles in the hands of music fans, eliminate the use of over 800,000 single-use plastic bottles and raise over $500,000 for the efforts of non-profit organizations during the 2017 concert season.
