LouisvilleKY’s LIBA to host famous scholar

LOUISVILLE, KY (February 27, 2017) – Building on a committed focus to support and encourage entrepreneurism and local business sustainability in Louisville, the Louisville Independent Business Alliance (LIBA) is will host a public reception for renowned scholar Dr. Jessica Gordon Nembhard on Monday, March 6 from 10:30am-11:30 at the Brandeis School of Law’s Cox Lounge. This reception is in conjunction with the highly anticipated panel discussion on Nembhard’s book, Collective Courage, being presented by the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, the UofL Diversity Committee, Louisville Free Public Library, the Urban League, and several other partners. The book, Collective Courage, chronicles African American cooperative business ownership and its place in the movements for black civil rights and economic equality. LIBA urges the entire community to attend and participate in this very timely discussion.

Jessica Gordon Nembhard is Associate Professor of Community Justice and Social Economic Development in the Department of Africana Studies at John Jay College, City University of New York. The reception will feature a highlight of her work, and will include a collection of community and business leaders on hand to discuss opportunities for economic empowerment in West Louisville.
Immediately following the reception, the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law’s Diversity Committee will host the panel discussion-Collective Courage: Diversity, Cooperative Economics, and the Law-featuring Gordon Nembhard, President and CEO of the Louisville Urban League Sadiqa Reynolds, and Brandeis School of Law professor Ariana Levinson.
