LouisvilleKY’s popular Wednesday Concert series announces this month’s lineup

LouisvilleKY – Louisville’s favorite concert series continues Wednesday, August 29, 2018. The WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Concert Series is a monthly free concert on the Big Four Lawn in Louisville Waterfront Park, located next to the Big Four® Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge.

This concert will feature WILD CHILD, THE SUFFERS and KATIE TOUPIN. It’s sponsored by Goose Island Brewing Company, Republic Bank, Passport Health Plan, Toyota Dealerships of Kentuckiana, and Friends of the Waterfront. Additional support provided by Kentucky Science Center and Theatre 502.

“This band is on fire when it’s in front of an audience…. The Suffers’ sound is steeped in what the band calls ‘Gulf Coast Soul,’ as well as elements of ska, Southern hip-hop, classic soul, rock ‘n’ roll and especially reggae.” said NPR’s Bob Boilen.

Waterfront Wednesday

“For a band that exudes such familiar, tried-and-true qualities as rootsy folk charm and an irrepressible pop spirit, up-and-coming Austin-based outfit Wild Child is surprisingly hard to classify […]  Wild Child eludes any easy classification, more organic and earthy than indie-pop typically is, but also richer and more effervescently poppy than what you’d associate with folk or Americana.” —_Pop Matters_

“Katie Toupin‘s debut EP evokes a kind of fantastical vision of a faraway land full of adventure and excitement…. This is a confident and passionate performance of Toupin’s first new music since departing from indie rockers Houndmouth in 2016.” — Josh Terzino, _Music.Defined._

New this year is a kids activity area led by Jecorey Arthur, 90.5 WUOL’s Music Education Manager. The 90.5 WUOL Classical Corner will offer activities where children can play, explore, and learn the world of classical music. It’s free and open to all ages when you sign up at our information booth or have a Cultural Pass. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Activities begin when the lawn opens at 5pm.

The Big Four® Lawn “opens” at 5pm, and the music begins promptly at 6pm. The remaining concert date for the 2018 season is September 26.

The Republic Bank Easy Ride Trolley De Ville will offer free trolley service between Witherspoon and the event site from 6-10 p.m. Parkside Bikes will have expanded bike parking on-site.  Outside alcohol is prohibited.  No coolers, glass or pets allowed in the event area of the Big Four Lawn and the adjacent park areas. For more information, please call (502) 814-6519.

About WFPK Waterfront Wednesday®

The Waterfront Development Corporation (WDC) and WFPK first partnered in 2002 to produce an innovative concert series that showcased local and emerging national recording artists as heard on radio station 91.9 WFPK.  Each free concert attracts large audiences to mingle, dance and enjoy the river in a family-friendly park  atmosphere with a cash bar and upscale festival fare.  The event has become a thriving city institution, drawing thousands to Waterfront Park and helping Louisville
secure an international award as a top city for festivals.
