Perhaps the best, and surely the sweetest, treat of the week was last night’s reception at Cellar Door Chocolates. Two of the loveliest Rusty Satellite alumni have teamed up to offer Barnhart Bars, a series of chocolate bars packaged with artistic, romantic images of women.
Erika Chavez-Graziano, the entrepreneur behind Cellar Door, and Jeaneen Barnhart, the local artist known for beautiful images of Horses and women, debuted the Barnhart Bars at Cellar Door’s 4th Street location Thursday to an approving, capacity crowd.
Chavez-Graziano described the care that has gone into creating the new product. The bars sell for $12.
“We created this amazing blend of chocolates from beans that we imported and processed into chocolate,” she said. “There are six different bars. We partnered with Jeaneen Barnhart and her sister Doreen Barnhart to develop the wrappers for these bars. The bars are so special we really wanted some special packaging.”
She said the packaging is designed to be removed, and even framed.
RUSTY SATELLITE SHOW:
Show #189 features two locals who are making waves nationally. Patrick Whelan is a recovering addict, he’ll tell you, who loves the experience of attending music festivals. But for many people doing drugs and going to shows go hand-in-hand. When Whelan got into recovery he discovered a lot of other folks were dealing with the same issue of feeling uncomfortable with the emphasis of mind-altering at shows. So he started a non-profit that provides a place for those in recovery to go during events such as Bonnaroo and the local Forecastle Festival. Last year he set up at 15 festivals around the U.S., and the number is growing this year.
Lisa Kahl-Hillerich looked up and saw her 50th birthday approaching and decided to do something different with her life. So she quit her 9-to-5 job and started exploring the world of fashion, and has created a line called RoxyNell Jeans that combines her other passions — bourbon and baseball — into a product that launches in April. UBER EATING:
Now, if you don’t see what you like in the restaurants listed, my pals at Uber compiled a list of the top Valentine’s Day destinations in Louisville from last year. It starts with the English Grill, at the Brown Hotel. Other downtown spots are Rivue (at the Galt House) and Proof on Main (at 21C). There’s Jack Fry’s in the Highlands and the Corner (at Aloft). It seems like the list is heavy on hotel restaurants. The Corner has just opened last year.
Another Highlands spot, the Holy Grale, made the list, along with independent restaurants Butchertown Grocery and 610 Magnolia.
Two bars made the list, and they’ll surprise you. The Haymarket Whiskey Bar on Market, and the famed “Mag Bar” in Old Louisville made the cut.
