Louisville, Ky., – Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence is the latest Louisvillian to be dubbed a Hometown Hero. For that recognition, there will be a 30-by-40-foot banner draped along the west-facing wall of the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts.
The banner will be unveiled Sept. 25, thanks to the efforts of The Lawrence Ladies who launched a GoFundMe site to raise money for the banner.
Lawrence’s banner was funded through efforts led by the group “The Lawrence Ladies.” The group of young women created a GoFundMe site to raise money for the banner.
The fundraising page calls Lawrence “…a woman who has been an inspiration to girls (like us) all over the world. She’s proof that it’s OK to follow your dreams as long as you’re true to yourself.”
News media outlets are reporting that Hunger Games star won’t be at the Saturday morning event, but is honored by the recognition.
“I feel so lucky to be born and raised a Louisville girl,” Lawrence said in a statement. “Louisville gave me a perspective and informed my identity in a beautiful and honest way. I’m grateful for this honor and extremely humbled to join this list.”
Lawrence’s parents Karen and Gary said in a statement, “The Lawrence family would like to thank everyone involved in this project. We think it is so cool that the City of Louisville would honor our daughter in this way. Thank you so much.”
Lawrence, who earned a Best Actress Oscar for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, joins Muhammad Ali, Diane Sawyer, Ed Hamilton and nearly two dozen more people and events as Hometown Heroes who have well represented the city to the world.
