Louisville’s first two centuries to be explored at Riverside, the Farnsley-Moreman Landing

Louisville, Ky.,  – Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing invites visitors to “200 Years On the Ohio”  on September 19 and 20, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm each day, on the grounds of the historic property located at 7410 Moorman Road.

This historical timeline experience features historical re-enactors from the early exploration and settlement into the World War I era. Visitors will see demonstrations of the tools, weaponry, clothing, pastimes, and crafts of the various periods represented.

Admission to the event is free. Tours of the centerpiece of the property, the historic Farnsley-Moremen House are ½ price for the day ($3/adults and seniors; $1.50/children and children 5 and under are free). This event is being held in partnership with the Falls Landing Foundation, Inc.

Activities will include period fashion shows, demonstrations of dance, blacksmithing, hearth-cooking and archery, and tours of the re-enactor camps. A highlight of the event is “Meet Mr. Lincoln”, a re-enactor presentation featuring Dennis Boggs’ portrayal of President Abraham Lincoln. Another featured presenter is Albert Roberts who portrays at late 18th century doctor. (He will make you glad you live in the 21stcentury!) In addition, archaeologists from the Kentucky Archaeological Survey will be present at Riverside’s current excavation site—and the public is invited to participate in the dig!

Once again, spectators will enjoy an 1860’s-style baseball game between the Cincinnati Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Red Stockings at 1:00 PM on Sunday.  Families are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket to spread on the grass to have the ‘best seat in the house’ while enjoying this historic version of America’s pastime.

Food vendors serving modern fare will also be present both days.

Directions to Riverside, the Farnsley-Moremen Landing from Downtown Louisville: Take I-65 to the Gene Snyder Freeway West. Go approximately 9 miles. Take a left at the stop light onto Lower River Road. The entrance to Riverside will be on your right after about 1/8 of a mile.  Historic site is located at 7410 Moorman Road, Louisville KY.
