Louisville, Ky., – 91.9 WFPK announces the launch of its favorite concert series on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. The WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® Concert Series is a monthly free concert on the Big Four Lawn in Louisville Waterfront Park, located next to the Big Four Pedestrian and Bicycle Bridge.
This concert will feature Civil Twilight, Jukebox the Ghost and Small Time Napoleon. It’s sponsored by Goose Island Brewing Company, MINI of Louisville, Republic Bank, Passport Health Plan and Friends of the Waterfront. Additional support comes from Old 502 Winery.
Civil Twilight’s forthcoming studio album, Story Of An Immigrant, will be available June 2 on Wind-Up Records. Entertainment Weekly says the track is “enveloping, emotive, and one of the easiest things you’ll listen to all day.” “There are so many levels to this band and so many bits of their brilliance that draw you into each song.” — Rachel Fredrickson, HybridMagazine.com
“Jukebox the Ghost is a refreshing reminder that the lighthearted electricity of a fantastic pop song is still filled with live wires.” — Samantha Promisloff, Spin Magazine
“Small Time Napoleon is poised for big time things. They are truly one of the most unique and exciting bands I’ve seen come out of Louisville in a very long time. Their music and instrumentation and vocals are exquisite!” — Laura Shine, Assistant Program Director and On-Air Host, WFPK
The Big Four Lawn “opens” at 5pm, and the music begins promptly at 6pm. The remaining concert dates for the 2015 season are June 24, July 29, August 26 and September 30.
To alleviate parking congestion caused by the KY/IN Bridges project, a free trolley service, courtesy of Republic Bank, will be offered between Witherspoon and the Big Four Lawn for people who park West of I-65. The Republic Bank Easy Trolley will run a continuous loop between 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. Outside alcohol is prohibited. No coolers, glass or pets allowed in the event area of the Big Four Lawn. For more information, please call (502) 814-6519.
The Waterfront Development Corporation (WDC) and WFPK first partnered in 2002 to produce an innovative concert series that showcased local and emerging national recording artists as heard on radio station 91.9 WFPK. Each free concert attracts large audiences to mingle, dance and enjoy the river in a family-friendly park atmosphere with a cash bar and upscale festival fare. The event has become a thriving city institution, drawing thousands to Waterfront Park and helping Louisville secure an international award as a top city for festivals. In addition, the Southeast Tourism Society selected WFPK Waterfront Wednesday® as one of their Top 20 Events.
