I just did a round of Google and social media searching to determine whether the much discussed local franchise of NYC’s Magnolia Bakery is, as yet, open for business.
The choices, as gleaned from five widely ranging minutes of diminishing returns, are: not open at all, already open, will be opening Tuesday the 18th, won’t be open until Tuesday the 25th, will open some time this summer, or perhaps this fall.
I’m exhausted. I couldn’t really find a firm website, either, except the main corporate page, here: Magnolia Bakery.
Me? I’m already covered, and quite happily so. From my New Albany domicile over in Hoosierland, it’s five minutes in one direction to Sweet Stuff for excellent cakes, pies and doughnuts, and five minutes the other direction to Legacy Pizza for fantastic loaves of bread.
Then again, neither banana pudding nor Big Apple reputations govern my life. Different strokes; so be it. We’re all alright. Carry on, and mind the gap.
Strictly speaking, Magnolia Bakery will be operating in Phoenix Hill; NuLu is a marketing concept, not a neighborhood per se. But I’m in the thorny minority about this point, too, and utterly delighted to be such a traditionalist.
Seriously: I hope Magnolia’s advent becomes clear soon enough for those of you who are eager to welcome it. Meanwhile, Joel Stinnett covered the prelude at Louisville Business First back in May.
Magnolia Bakery to open first Louisville location inside Zen 620 development
Magnolia Bakery will open its first Louisville store late this summer at 620 E. Market Street inside the Zen 620 development, franchisee Alex Nessenthaler told Business First.
Founded in 1996 in New York City, Magnolia Bakery has been featured in TV shows such as Sex and the City, Saturday Night Live and Spin City and in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
The bakery is known for its red velvet cupcakes and its “world famous” banana pudding.
