PARKING DAY: I’m glad to get behind this movement sponsored by Broken Sidewalk and the Urban Design Studio. Today, at seven spots around downtown,mini-parks will be set up in parking spaces. The idea is to call attention to the need for more urban greenspace, which is a pretty good idea. And if you’re so motivated you can ride your bike around to all seven of the designated spots.
There’s a LOT going on this weekend, so much that driving all the way over to Lexington to see a couple of mediocre football teams play at Commonwealth Stadium seems a waste. Some of what’s on my schedule:
Blood Sucking: This weekend marks the annual debut of Actors Theatre’s production of Dracula. Performances are Friday, Saturday and Sunday through Halloween Eve, but I’m getting a jump start of the creepiest of holidays by going tonight.
Food Trucking: On Saturday, my friend Steve Paradis is about to find out how big a hit he has on his hands with the second Food Truckus Ruckus. He says about a dozen food trucks will be on hand at Fresh Start Growers Supply, where a ’70s hippie band will be providing entertainment. The first one, lightly publicized, was packed. It’s a Gas: A lot of people come to Jeffersontown once a year, because that’s when the Gaslight Festival takes place. The Arts and Crafts street show is a nice excuse to get out and party in the pavilion. With the weather forecast, it’ll be packed Saturday, even with the football game on TV. And after the official party stops at 11, a handful of nearby bars will be going strong.
Bourbon Festival: It looks like the only time I can make Bardstown’s Bourbon Festival is Sunday, but there’s plenty to do there, including a Kentucky Bourbon Breakfast.
