Marquette’s Voice a Fan of Coneys

Marquette's Jim McIlvaine likes Coneys

As I sit here watching the Marquette vs. West Virginia basketball game I remember a few weeks back when I picked up Marquette’s radio commentator, Jim McIlvaine, all seven feet, one inch of him. The Golden Eagles were in town to play U of L (Jan. 15, Cards won 71-70). The Cards have a rematch with Marquette tonight in the Big East Tourney in New York.

I picked him up at the downtown Marriott and he wanted to go to Bardstown Road.

McIlvaine played at Marquette in the early ’90s and then seven seasons in the NBA.

He didn’t want to go to a fancy restaurant or a bar.  He was excited to go to Skyline Chili. His plan was to get his picture on the wall for eating more Coney’s than anyone else.  I gave him my card and told him to give me a call if he needed a ride back to the hotel.  About an hour passed and he called.   I went to pick him up…he was very proud and very full.  He told me he had 15 Coney’s and got his picture taken and put up on the wall.  He was also happy to have been wearing a Marquette shirt in the picture.

So all the Cardinal fans reading this should know there is a picture of a Marquette Coney lover hanging up proudly in the Skyline Chili on Bardstown Road at the Mid City Mall.
