Marra and Cards Steamroll Marquette, 81-56

Mike Marra's six three pointers lead Cards past the Golden Eagles

Welcome home Mike Marra. The sophomore sharpshooter’s return to his native northeast was his best performance of the season. As soon as Marra came off the bench he was electrifying, putting up 11 before halftime. He finished the night shooting six of ten from behind the arc. Marra’s 22 points was one shy of hs career high but easily led the Cardinals to an easy victory over the Golden Eagles.

The Cardinals struggled early in the game, at one point Marquette was up 11-2. But once the Cardinals shifted into gear, they never looked back. They cruised into halftime and emerged by scoring three consecutive times with Terrence Jennings in the paint.

Louisville’s triumverate of three point scorers: Marra, “King” Kyle Kuric, and Preston Knowles, combined for 36 points from downtown. The Cardinals as a whole shot the three at an astounding 42%. Every night you can expect at least one of UofL’s swingmen to excel and tonight the Cards had all three.

Now the Cards will take on Notre Dame tomorrow night at 9pm on ESPN. This will be the rematch of the highly contested match-up in South Bend a month ago. Where Kyle Kuric posterized the Fighting Irish and recieved a much disputed technical.

The bad news for the Cardinals is that the Fighting Irish demolished Cincinatti 89-51 earlier today. Big East Player of the Year Ben Hansborough was on top form.

The good news is that Digger Phelps is covering the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City and won’t be anywhere to be found tomorrow night.
