Launched in 2022 by savvy expatriates from the East Coast, Maya Bagel Express on Poplar Level Road in the Audubon neighborhood has had eager customers lining up ever since to nosh on New York-style bagels, including widely praised lox and pastrami equipped varieties.
Now a second location is slated for December opening at 2513 Preston Highway in Parkway Village. As Louisville Business First’s Michael L. Jones reports, the building is a former chain chicken outlet with enough work space to support continued expansion.

“The shop on Poplar Level has become a very popular establishment, and with this expansion, we’ll use this new space as a flagship,” (owner Murad) Islamov said. “Later on, we’re going to have specialty coffee. We’re licensed with Peet’s Coffee to distribute, so we’re going to have cappuccinos, lattes and an expanded menu.”
