Mayor Fischer urges LouisvilleKY to explore the arts this summer

 

Louisville — Mayor Greg Fischer today encouraged citizens to attend the upcoming Arts & Culture Day event and to pick up a Cultural Pass for youngsters.

Arts & Culture Day will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 5 on the Brown-Forman Lawn at Waterfront Park.

“The arts make our city a vibrant place to live and an attractive destination for visitors,” Mayor Greg Fischer said. “We take pride in our capacity for creativity and lifelong learning, and I encourage citizens to attend Arts & Culture Day and to learn more about the many arts institutions serving them.”

The free family event is organized by the Arts & Culture Alliance, a membership network of decision-makers representing the arts and cultural attractions of the Greater Louisville Region and Southern Indiana. Arts & Culture Day will highlight the many educational opportunities available in Louisville year-round through the arts.

Arts & Culture Day will include booths, performances and hands-on-activities. The many participating arts organizations include:

·      Actors Theatre of Louisville

·      Frazier History Museum

·      Kentucky Derby Museum

·      Kentucky Shakespeare

·      Louisville Free Public Library

·      Louisville Orchestra

·      Speed Art Museum

Attendees will be able to see excerpts from plays, choral presentations, re-enactments and live science experiments. Many of the stage performances will include audience participation. The festival also includes free hands-on activities at each booth.

The Louisville Food Truck Alliance will be on hand selling food and Louisville Water Company will provide free water.

Citizens will also be able to pick up Cultural Passes during Arts & Culture Day.
