Mayor Greg Fischer Draws in Record Crowd to explore LIFT Initiative

MayorGregFischer_LouisvilleKentucky_LIFT_VisionLouisvilleOn Monday, July 15th business owners, retirees, college students, up and coming professionals and movers and shakers all gathered to listen to Mayor Greg Fischer’s presentation about the LIFT Kentucky initiative currently in proposal stage.

LIFT, short for Local Investments for Transformation, is a proposed local option sales tax for community development projects. If adopted in Kentucky, LIFT would allow the community to vote on various city improvement efforts and enact a limited “penny tax” to generate revenue for projects approved through voting.

Additionally, Mayor Fischer spoke about his 25-year vision for the city and dream of bringing in community development ideas from across Louisville. The project, called Vision Louisville, can be joined at http://visionlouisville.com where you’re challenged to share your “big idea” for Louisville.

Both LIFT and Vision Louisville are clear, resonate passions for Mayor Fischer. His love of this city and dedication to improving it came through loud and clear at this presentation. His message was compelling with excellent examples of what has been done in other similar cities and a sober reality-check of current finances.
