It is actually a lot harder than it sounds — Dr. Quill said that all I would need to do is keep all weight off my right foot. So I got a set of crutches, rented a scooter and borrowed one of those old-people walkers, filled the Percocet prescription, got Paula to stock some food and drink upstairs and….
I’ve spent four days in the same two rooms with my iMac, KindleFire, iPhone, and Bluetooth speaker. And two dachshunds.
This has been my post-surgery week — on Monday I had my ankle fused, an operation that fuses some of the bones in my ankle so that I can once again walk like a normal human. Dr. Quill said the surgery was a big success — now it’s just a matter of getting through the next few weeks with limited mobility – meaning no driving.
It’s been pretty nice — I got all caught up on Homeland on Showtime, discovered the hilarious Netflix series Master of None, finished Jonathan Franzen’s “Purity” and completed the 124th consecutive week of producing the Rusty Satellite Show. I am caught up on email.
Basketball season started, but honestly I’m finding myself uninterested. There’s more drama unfolding on campus, even beyond the sex scandal, with odd tales involving the school president trying to apologize for wearing a sombrero at a Halloween party, and one director making $185K who tried to save money on personal travel by setting up bogus meetings in the same city as her scheduled marathons were being held.
I’ve been following the news — on Facebook it looks like people either want to shut down immigration for Syrians (even if, like our governor, they don’t have the authority to do so) or be reasonable, like John Yarmuth. It appears Gov-elect Matt Bevin doesn’t take to criticism well, especially when it involves his children, as illustrated by his reaction to a cartoon in the Herald-Leader.
Everybody on local TV wants to talk about snow.
Paula took off from work Monday and Tuesday, and she’s been great about taking care of me – making breakfast, leaving a sandwich when she leaves. I even took a shower on Thursday, with her help.
Now, I know that I’m not going to be content to stay in these two rooms much longer, and I have a feeling we’re going to try to get out of the house this weekend. On the other hand, I got plenty of entertainment here.
