Out of The Rut and Into Summer!

There’s nothing like the kids getting out of school to jolt you out of the day in and day out rut. School’s been out about a week and I’ve already been to places I haven’t been to in a long time. One of my favorite things about Summer is the Louisville Public Library’s Free Reading Program. http://www.lfpl.org/ Honestly, have you been to your nearest library branch lately? First off, it’s air conditioned! Second, the kids reading program offers a ton of fun rewards for the kidos after they read some books. I always tell my kids the best part of summer reading is the choice of books are all up to you. Think of something you enjoy or interested in and find a book about it. No test afterward just pure enjoyment of reading. I also love getting to the parks in the summer time. As we know, Louisville has some of the best city parks in the country. http://www.louisvilleky.gov/metroparks/. A fun idea I just read about in a family magazine was to create a Park Passport. Make a list of the city parks you want to visit. Create a little passport book with the kids and then start the adventure. I think this is a fun way to see parks you might not usually go to and let your kids “rate” them. Some of our parks have “Spraygrounds”. Completely free areas to have fun in the water and cool off. Do you have any special summer activities you do with your family? I would love to hear about them. Happy Summer!
