Outside Looking Into Louisville TV

A June 6 Broadcasting and Cable story (sorry, no link) highlighted the excellence of the local TV market, bragging about how all four local news stations reacted to the weather events in May.  And writer Michael Malone revealed some news:

  • In May, WLKY-TV ran away with sweeps competition, as LouisvilleKY.com readers know. The story quoted WLKY’s Glenn Haygood on the widening gap between his and other stations’ ratings in the Sweeps.
  • In August, WAVE-TV will bring back weekend news between 6-8 a.m., a time slot it dropped a few years ago.
  • In the Fall, WHAS-TV is launching a local morning program, “Great Day Live“, at 9 a.m.
  • WLKY-TV is debuting Anderson Cooper at 9 a.m. in the fall.

So there’s a lot of changes coming this fall in local TV, and at least in the eyes of national media, Louisville is a strong news market. The story also mentions Louisville’s economy in glowing terms, and quotes WDRB-TV’s Bill Lamb praising the new Mayor.
