New Albany’s original exurb, dating to the late 1970s, chokes State St. from the hospital to the I-265 interstate interchange, just beyond which the Knobs begin their abrupt rise. In downtown New Albany, State St. leads from the YMCA to Cherry St., roughly six blocks that are considered part of the historic business district.
State St. between Cherry St. and the hospital comprises a more traditional mix of older structures, including residential and small business. This is where my friends Mickey and Jamie are building out their deli.
It’s a bit too far for me to walk from my house on Spring St., as with Mickey’s, the coffee shop and bookstore on Vincennes St. However, my bicycle just scored a tune-up thanks to the nice folks at Scheller’s Fitness & Cycling in Clarksville.
Ultimately, it’s the little things that give us away. I like intimate and personalized. Speaking from experience, independent small businesses are laborious undertakings. But when they’re right, it almost makes this capitalism thing worthwhile.
New, locally-owned deli coming to New Albany, by Molly Gregory (News and Tribune)
Paper Dolls Deli, located at 941 State Street, Suite No. 4, is the brainchild of Jamie Yeager and Mickey Ball. The latter owns Mickey’s coffee shop.
(snip)
The deli, which is slated to open sometime in the month of May, Yeager said, will primarily serve traditional cold sandwiches and sides. Some of the offerings will be vegan. There will be sodas, three to five signature sandwiches, build-your-own sandwiches and sides – including Yeager’s macaroni salad, which she called addictive.
The projected opening date for Paper Dolls is ASAP, and opening hours are projected to be Tuesday through Saturday.
