There weren’t many people deterred from seeing Santa’s arrival at Sixth and Jefferson for Light Up Louisville, despite the fact the U of L was sliding by Ohio U down the street. It so happened that the game and Light Up Louisville ended about the same time, but traffic flowing out of downtown seemed pretty smooth. I took Sixth down to River Road, experienced a slight delay at Second, but had clear sailing down River Road.
Despite the awkwardness of Greg Fischer bellowing hello to Santa, the event was a delight, especially for parents seeking some free family entertainment. Taylrosville’s J.D. Shelburn took the stage during the mad scramble to get home after a rather skinny Santa stopped off at Metro Hall. The fireworks didn’t rival anything you’d see in April, but the display from the tops of a few downtown buildings, combined with the light display in Jefferson Square Park.
