If you’ve been trawling the Internet lately or paying attention to the links your friends have been posting on their Facebook walls you may have heard of this site:
Spokeo.
Spokeo is a site that takes your information and makes it easily accessible to anyone and everyone on the Internet. For free. Gone are the days of surveillance and rooting through trash cans –now you can just type some characters and click on the mouse. –Voila! Insta-info.
Several people have voiced their concerns about this because, hey, do you really want your cellphone number broadcast to everyone? Or Facebook info? How much you paid for your house, car, etc.? The small saving grace is that with Spokeo you can un-list your information. Consult their Help guide; it takes only a few minutes.
A little less known and maybe more potent is Pipl. Pipl is a site that not only finds the same info that Spokeo does (it links to it) but it links to documents you may have floating out in Webstream. I’ve personally found more info than I imagined available that linked back to me.
Folks, our world is getting smaller by the moment. Watch what you post, where you post it, and how much info you give to “apps,” Facebook or otherwise.
Spokeo is located at www.spokeo.com. Pipl can be found at www.pipl.com
