Next Friday, May 20, is Bike to Work Day, so now is a great time to dust off that old Huffy, check in with a mechanic, take a confident cycling class, make sure your helmet fits, and plan a route to work and other locations within a few miles of home.
If you’ve never tried it, you may be surprised at how easy and fun it is to bike around town. And when more cyclists get out on the streets it’s safer for everyone. People slow down, but remarkably they get to their destinations in about the same time – maybe even faster. (I know, it doesn’t make sense, but life is full of ironies, right?
Tara Bassett and Becca White, hosts of Louisville Live! on WBKI TV, invited me on the show to demonstrate my new Brompton folding bike and share the news about Bike To Work Day. I’m anything but shy – especially when it comes to my passion for the noblest invention.
Did you know that a human on a bicycle is a more efficient engine that a condor in flight? That’s amazing and true. A human on a bicycle is a marvelous machine. The passenger is the engine. Makes me want to pedal more than ever. How about you?
Grace. Peace. Bicycle grease.
PS: Remember, every lane is a bike lane.
Share the road.
